The museums are all closed on Monday, so we only went to churches today. Visited St. Stephen’s Cathedral in the morning, complete with a viewing of St. Stephen’s mummified right hand – which is the subject of many pilgrimages. Couldn’t really see it through the protective box, but probably just as well. The photographs of it were not appealing!
Tried to get into the Hungarian Legislature for a tour, but they were sold out for the next 2 days. We think the tour busses must take a lot of tickets. We will be at the ticket office at 8am Wednesday, to see if we can get four.
With the Legislature unavailable, and the museums all closed, we decided to walk across to Margarit Island in the middle of the Danube– a beautiful park, with several ruins of churches and a convent. It was a warm, sunny day, so nice to be outside.
Stopped at 4 or 5 churches on the way home, but most of them were closed.
Back to our favourite spot for a beer, then to a nice restaurant for dinner.
Still having trouble connecting to the “free” internet in the hotel – for 2 days their service was down, then today they tell me that it only works on Floors 2, 3, and 4 – we are on 6. Sitting in the hallways of Floors 2, 3 (where all the rooms are totally gutted for renovations) or 4 with laptop in lap – no internet. So I am saving these up for when (if?) we get access.
