up Petrin Hill

We hiked up Petrin Hill - a quiet, park with a 318m hill in the middle. At the top is a Eiffel-esque lookout tower - another 299 steps and $3.50 each to get in, so we decided to admire the view from the bottom. Great views of Prague - the castle, the spires and the red roofs and the river. Also took a tour of the Stefanik Observatory on the top of the hill - staffed by very enthusiastic young hobby astonomers, who were more than happy to answer all our questions. Not much activity on the sun at the time. Linda, you would have been able to attach your SLR camera to one of the telescopes, for an excellent shot of the people at the top of the tower, across the park - could have counted their freckles! Took the funicular down the hill (much shorter line-up for the downward voyage) and walked along the river back to our hotel - with stops to admire the amazing architectural detail on the buildings - sculptures large and small, mosaics, lots of colours, with a very modern building at the end of the walk - nicknamed the "Dancing Building" because it reminds people of Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers dancing. Made our usual stop for a beer - a new variety - and supper. We had the "Bohemian meal for 2" - roast duck, ham, knuckle of pork, 2 kinds of dumplings, potato pancake and cooked red and green cabbage - sounds good, hey?
